Minnesota's well known local music producer, Jeremy 'The Real Young Bishop' Hicks, now 22, born and raised in the city of Saint Paul, has been doing music since the age of 6. He was introduced to music from being in a musical gifted family. His uncle taught his older brother and cousin and that’s where it all began. At the age of 6 he had his first rap written by his older brother and it was just all fun and games till 6 years later, at the age of 12 he started getting serious with his music. He then discovered that he had the gift of music nobody else had.
Today music is all that he does. Day and night Bishop is either working at his job helping others students with their musical talents, or making music of his own in his studio. He really didn't have much influences growing up but himself, but more of the matter, he had much respect for real musicians and artists. Even though he may have gone to High School of Recording Arts, he really taught himself how to do all that he knows in his music.
Watching others that he was around just made him practice even harder to perfect his skills, "I don't feel that I’m really as strong as I can be, so everything is my weakness because I know I can be way better at everything I do in life and music." says Bishop. He not only produces his own music but he also writes, sings and freestyle as well. His free styling game is more of a memory than on a piece of paper, nothing is ever written.
His music is a genre for everybody who likes to hear 'real' music from real musicians. All his songs are based upon his life situations on what he went through or is going through in his life today. You couldn't compare his music to anybody else out there; it’s just simply The Real Young Bishop. His songs are, as he will say are, "refreshing and pleasant air to breathe.'' His music image is just him expressing himself over instruments.
Many wonder why he isn't in the industry as he should have been a long time ago, but Bishop thinks otherwise, "I'm not looking for any major label, unless they’re going to work out a distribution deal with me. The main reason I’m not really concerned about a major deal is because if I wanted one I could have been signed with any label I wanted to but I want my own stuff. You know so I can say I own something that’s really a part of me."
He's worked not only on his own music, but with other local artists who actually now have well-known names in the music industry. Artists such as Minnesota's own Beluga Heights princess Auburn, also his cousin, which he produced the majority of her first album Same Giirl, with the hit single "Ewww Ewww"; he's also worked on projects with Chrishan, Bishop B, KiiD Magic and many others. Right now Bishop is currently still working on his own music, soon to release a couple of mix tapes and also his highly anticipated album, “The Truth”. We're all still waiting to see what’s going to happen next with The Real Young Bishop. When asked about his long-term goals, he says, "To just be a very successful young man and by the time I choose to retire, I would’ve accomplished more than people three times the age I am when I call it quits.”
